Unsung Heroes of Australian History Bringing Australian history to life

A musical, visual and historical feast exploring and celebrating the life and times of those who have quietly shaped this nation.  Bursting with solid research, spirited lyrics and sublime artistry. Complete with audience interaction and the gratuitous distribution of Anzac biscuits and Turkish Delights!
We ask the big questions:

  • What was Henry Lawson’s mum like?
  • What was the Eureka flag made from and by whom?
  • How old was the youngest soldier to die at Gallipoli?
  • How was Vegemite invented (and why on earth did they invent it)?

So many people have quietly made their mark and helped to form this fortunate nation. We invite you to join us to meet some of them.

“These songs drip with the satisfying juices of solid research, spirited lyrics and sublime artistry.”
Dr Clare Wright, Historian, Author, Broadcaster, La Trobe University, VIC
“The Unsung Heroes of Australian History’ demonstrate potential for Australians to gain a better understanding of people who have helped shape Australian history.”
The Hon Simon Crean MP
“This show was exceptional ... It was a real highlight of the National Folk Festival for me and I was so glad I saw it… I’ve loved history all my life and thought I knew a lot about these people. Now I know a lot more after a memorable two sessions at The National Folk Festival. Congratulations to all concerned.”

There is kindness and courage in almost everyone. We can’t all be Warnies or Kylies or Clarkies or Blanchetts.
We can all be loyal and truthful and hardworking and brave - and most of us are much of the time.
When we are dust and ashes, what traces will we leave...
